CAMP Lejre, group exhibition in Lejre, Denmark 2001
Title: Ævintýri / Fairy Tale
Site: The Lejre train station
Material and realisation:
• Table: 80 x 270 x 75 cm.
• Bright blue tablecloth with three golden embroideries. The cloth is fastened on the edges with golden nails.
• Three heaps of coloured stones are placed on top of the embroideries: one yellow, one red and one blue. The stones are died sinder from Mount Hekla, Iceland.
• Besides each heap a red plastic shovel on a golden chain that is fastened to the table with a golden hook.
• At the end of the table is a plastic pocket full of golden paper bags. On the pocket is written the following text in English: Dear friend Take some stones in your pocket and let them fall on your way, beautifully. Then come back a more beautiful way.
Opening performance: I dress in a long bright blue dress with golden embroidery made of the same material as the tablecloth. I do my blond hair in one long braid and put on red lipstick. On every hour of the opening day as the train is coming to the station, I offer people - either coming to or leaving Lejre - stones to make their way back more beautiful. I smile a lot.
Leaving Monday, passing through the Lejre train station as I leave for Iceland I see the stones are all gone. I imagine the places they have spread to. I go home a more beautiful way.
Dedicated to my foster son Völundur
